Next, you’ll need to pour your brewed coffee into a mug. What kind of coffee you use depends entirely on your personal preferences, but we say the stronger, the better.

If you want your eggnog latte to pack a slightly more powerful punch of caffeine, use a shot of freshly brewed espresso instead.

REMEMBER…

You can always substitute a few of this recipe’s ingredients to accommodate dietary restrictions or certain preferences.

If you don’t drink whole milk, for example, use nut milk, like almond or cashew, for a latte that’s vegan-friendly. You can also always try it over ice for a cool and refreshing treat.

FAQ’s

WHAT IS EGGNOG?

The average batch of eggnog will consist of the following ingredients: milk, cream, sugar, whipped egg whites, and egg yolks. Occasionally, there are also warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.

People often debate the origins of eggnog. However, many historians agree the drink evolved from a medieval British cold and flu remedy called posset.

At first, only the aristocracy got to partake in the mixture of hot milk curdled with wine or ale, cinnamon, mace, nutmeg, egg yolks, and egg whites. But in the 18th century, it made its way across the pond to the British colonies, where a more diverse range of people began drinking it.

Upon reaching America, eggnog drinkers replaced the wine or ale with a more cost-effective substitute, rum. And, since the colonists had access to an abundance of farm and dairy products, they had no issues making as much of the stuff as they wanted.

A reduced rum supply couldn’t even slow down consumption; Americans discovered bourbon made a suitable substitute.

Somewhere down the line, eggnog became associated with Christmastime, and it still marks the season today.

Presently, many versions of this winter delight exist, and they vary based on the part of the world where they’re enjoyed.

Did Starbucks Discontinue the Eggnog Latte?

As of 2021, Starbucks did not bring back its infamous Eggnog Latte to the holiday menu. Instead, it introduced a few new options. We’re unsure if the Eggnog Latte will be a drink that never returns to Starbucks, but we definitely recommend keeping an eye on it!

Can I Put Eggnog in My Coffee?

Yes! Eggnog can easily be put into coffee as a creamer, but we highly recommend making a mixture of eggnog, milk, nutmeg, and sugar like our recipe describes to get the most out of the flavors.

Does Eggnog Have Alcohol in It?

While, traditionally, eggnog is served with alcohol, the typical eggnog that you can purchase from the supermarket won’t contain alcohol. You can, however, always add any alcohol to it if you wish.

Can You Use Regular Coffee to Make Lattes?

By definition, a latte is typically made with espresso. Using shots of espresso guarantees a stronger drink since lattes are also usually made with a good amount of milk.

However, you can substitute the espresso with whatever coffee you desire. We recommend using a bit less milk if you plan on using regular coffee, that way there’s a more even flavor distribution.

Do You Need Additional Sweetener For an Eggnog Latte?

When it comes to our recipe, the eggnog mixture contains sugar, so you really won’t need any additional sweetener unless you prefer an even sweeter drink.

What’s in a Starbucks Eggnog Latte?

No need to worry about your homemade coffee drink not tasting like the one from Starbucks.

The international coffee shop franchise uses the same ingredients — steamed eggnog, espresso, and a dusting of nutmeg — to make the festive drink.

To make your drink taste as authentic as possible, make Starbucks Coffee’s espresso roast one of the ingredients you use in the copycat recipe.

Make Your Own Eggnog Latte This Holiday Season

Since it can be hard to guarantee if Starbucks, or your local coffee shop, will carry the Eggnog Latte when Christmas comes along, we recommend pulling out the ingredients and whipping up your own.

Not only will you get the delicious drink whenever you want, but you’ll also save a lot of money!

The recipe we’ve crafted for you is easy to follow, and in almost no time at all, you can make a homemade eggnog latte that’s sure to fill you with holiday cheer.
