The only beverage we want in our hands on a hot summer day is an iced coffee drink. Well, that and a cold glass of water — proper hydration is important, after all.
The point: we don’t necessarily want to drink piping hot coffee in sweltering weather, and we’re willing to bet you don’t either.
That’s when it pays to have a few solid cold brew coffee recipes up your sleeve, including ours that outlines the steps for topping your joe with salted caramel-flavored cold foam.
Meet Starbucks Coffee’s Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew
Starbucks unveiled the Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew in the summer of 2018, and ever since, the drink has provided cold brew coffee lovers with their beloved caffeine kicks and a boost of sweet caramel flavor.
What does the salted caramel cream cold brew taste like?
The drink is a mixture of ice cubes, Starbucks’s signature cold brew blend, vanilla syrup, and a dollop of salted caramel-infused sweet cream.
Sipping this cup of coffee gives you the best of both worlds, salty and sweet, but you don’t have to take our word for it.
Since this drink is on the coffee shop franchise’s permanent menu, you can head to your local Starbucks and try it whenever you want.
However, to save yourself a drive and six dollars or so, you can use our Starbucks copycat recipe to whip one up at home.
A Word About the Coffee Beans
If you hope to get the best-tasting results from this recipe (and the rest of your home-brewing endeavors), your best bet is to use freshly ground coffee beans and steep your own cold brew concentrate rather than relying on a bottle of pre-made joe from the grocery store.
The beans we brewed came from our friends at Atlas Coffee Club, and even though you can use whatever type of coffee beans you like, we highly recommend giving this company and its products a chance.
We have a detailed review of Atlas you can check out for more information, but until you have time to read it, we’ll leave you with this: these beans are top-notch. We felt refreshed and revitalized after just one sip of the cold brew they made.

You’ll Need:
- Fresh cold brew coffee
- Coffee creamer
- 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup
- A pinch of salt
- Caramel syrup
- Milk frother
- Frothing pitcher
- Tall glass
- Ice cubes
The Process:
Step 1:
Cold brew recipes are nothing without cold brew coffee concentrate, so kick things off by pulling out your trusty cold brew maker (or mason jar, if that’s your brewing vessel of choice) and steeping coarse ground coffee beans in room temperature or cold water for 12 to 24 hours.
If you don’t have the time or desire to make cold-brewed coffee, you can use already-made joe from the store but trust us: the homemade version delivers more flavorful and better-tasting results.
Step 2:
Once you’ve made your cold brew, filtered, and diluted, pour creamer, vanilla syrup, and a pinch of salt into a frothing pitcher or small cup.
Use an electric frother to mix the ingredients until they’re frothy. Stop frothing and set the mixture aside when the liquid appears to have doubled in size and your container is full of fluffy bubbles.
Step 3:
Fill a glass with ice cubes and add a drizzle of caramel syrup. Use as much or as little as you’d like; the exact amount depends on how sweet you want your finished brew to be.
Step 4:
Pour the cold brew coffee over the ice and caramel syrup and stir the ingredients until the syrup fully dissolves into the java.
Step 5:
Finally, pour the layer of caramel cream foam over the coffee. If you’re super-fancy (and we know you are), top the cold coffee drink with another drizzle of caramel-flavored syrup.
What’s in this caramel-flavored coffee?
We know some of you aren’t overly concerned about your beverage’s nutritional value; as long as there’s coffee in the cup, you’re satisfied.
However, some of us monitor caffeine, sugar, or calorie intakes, and for those java drinkers, we’ve got the answers to the questions you’re no doubt asking.
The quantities below come from a grande (16-ounce) serving from Starbucks, so remember that when you order a different size or make your own, these amounts will vary.
How much sugar is in a salted caramel cream cold brew?
There are 24 grams of sugar in this cold brew coffee beverage.
How many calories does the salted caramel cream cold brew have?
One of these caramel-filled cups of coffee from Starbucks has 220 calories.
Does the salted caramel cream cold brew have caffeine?
Yes, the Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew has caffeine — 185 milligrams, to be exact.
But that doesn’t mean decaffeinated coffee lovers have to miss out on the treat.
