At Roasty Coffee, we love a good dynamic duo. Think peanut butter and jelly, Batman and Robin, and…chocolate and coffee?
Yep! We think these two make a delightful pair, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they go together so well, considering many coffee bean blends have flavor profiles that boast notes of chocolatey goodness. Our appreciation for this coupling explains why we love a good mocha frappuccino so much.
A MOCHA FRAPPu-WHAT?
In 1994, Starbucks Coffee trademarked the term frappuccino to refer to their line of blended iced coffee drinks, and since then, the delicious mocha frappuccino has been a customer favorite.
Mocha sauce, coffee, milk, and ice cubes join forces to create a smooth, creamy drink enjoyed by many, and now, thanks to our recipe, you can enjoy an easy-to-make mocha frappuccino from the comfort of your own home.
Since it’s a cold drink, try it as a midday pick-me-up on a hot summer afternoon, or sip on this Starbucks copycat drink when your sweet tooth needs satisfying.
MAKE A HOMEMADE STARBUCKS MOCHA FRAPPUCCINO
YOU’LL NEED:
- 1 1/2 cups of ice
- 1 cup of chilled brewed coffee
- 1/3 cup of heavy cream or 2 percent milk
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate syrup
- Blender
THE RECIPE:
Step 1:
Brew your java! Any coffee drink is only as good as the coffee used, so make sure you’re using a high-quality blend in this copycat recipe. The fresher the coffee, the better it will be, so if you can, use freshly ground beans.
Since you’re making a cold beverage, you’ll want to leave the brewed coffee in the refrigerator for a few minutes, or if you want an extra boost of energy and have it on-hand, use cold brew.
Step 2:
Add your coffee, heavy cream (or milk, if you’d prefer), sugar, and ice to your blender, and pulse until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If you want something thicker with a more milkshake-like consistency, add a half cup more of ice.
Step 3:
Next, you’ll need to get your drink ready for serving. Presentation is everything, after all. Drizzle chocolate syrup around the sides of your glass; not only does this make your frappuccino look pretty, but it also gives you the sweet mocha flavor you’re after.
Step 4:
Pour the blended coffee mixture into the glass, and top it with a dollop of whipped cream, and finish the whole thing off with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Some say less is more while others say the more, the merrier; either way, add your toppings to your liking!
