Moccamaster Cup One Review

Just so you know, if you click on a product on RoastyCoffee.com and decide to buy it, we may earn a small commission.

Sometimes all you want is a single cup of coffee, maybe because you live alone or are trying to cut back. If you’re looking for a convenient coffee maker that serves one, then let me introduce you to the Technivorm Moccamaster Cup-One. This single-serve automatic drip coffee maker promises a quality cup of high-end coffee in very little time.

Let’s take a closer look at the Moccamaster Cup-One.

What to consider before buying a Moccamaster Cup-One Coffee Maker

So, you’ve decided to purchase a single-serve coffee maker, but is the Moccamaster Cup-One the right one for you?

The Moccamaster Cup-One is a single-serve filter coffee brewer with an automatic drip-stop and shut-off. It does not include a carafe or coffee cup.

Technivorm Moccamaster has been hand-making their systems since 1968 and offers a 5-year warranty and lifetime repairs on every model. Their quality craftsmanship has earned them the Gold Cup Standard from the Specialty Coffee Association of America, a high standard to achieve.

Before you purchase any machine, I recommend checking out our review of all the best drip coffee makers on the market today. Many include a single-serve option. I would also recommend looking at all of the single-serve options on the market before committing.

You may also want to consider a Technivorm Moccamaster model that includes a manual drip-stop, like the Moccamaster KBT. The manual drip-stop gives you a truly hands-on experience when brewing coffee and lets you control the flow to brew a single cup.

But let’s look closer at the Moccamaster Cup-One.

Basic specs

  • Dimensions: 10.25″ L X 6.50″ W X 11.75″ H
  • Volts: 120V
  • Colour: Silver or Off White
  • Water Reservoir: 10 oz / single cup
  • Carafe: None
  • Brew-basket Style: Auto Drip-Stop
  • Hot Plate: No
  • Warranty: 5 years

The Technivorm Moccamaster Cup-One is an automatic drop-stop brew-basket coffee machine that brews only one cup at a time. It’s the only Moccamaster product that does that. In addition, it comes in two different colors: polished silver or off-white.

The Moccamaster Cup-One includes the same copper elements as the larger models, which sets this brand ahead of most filter coffee makers on the market. The Moccamaster Cup-One also includes a removable cup holder for the coffee brewing process.

As the only single-serve coffee maker Moccamaster produces, it’s an excellent alternative to using a coffee pod. Your Moccamaster Cup-One will also arrive with several paper filters and the familiar brown coffee scoop to help measure your ground coffee.

There are several great features to this model that I think any coffee lover will appreciate.

Fast Brewing Time

With the Technivorm Moccamaster Cup-One, you’ll have your cup of coffee in under four minutes. This single-cup brew time may not seem as impressive when compared to the 10-cup version, like the Moccamaster KB model, but your single cup of coffee will be extraordinary.

Despite the quick brew time, coffee grounds are brewed with the ideal extraction and saturation for the perfect coffee bloom. In addition, the cone-shaped brew-basket design contributes to the coffee quality.

This specially designed brew-basket funnels water over the scoops of ground coffee, providing an ideal brew ratio before dispensing into your cup. I know I love having delicious coffee in less than five minutes so that I can run out the door in the morning.

Removable Cup Holder

Because the Moccamaster Cup-One is the only single-cup coffee maker that Moccamaster produces, it comes without a carafe. So instead, they include a removable cup holder. This cup holder attaches to the base below the brew basket and holds most standard cup sizes.

What if you have an odd-shaped mug? That’s okay because it’s completely removable. This feature helps avoid slips and is easy to clean.

Copper Heating Element

The copper boiling element that comes standard in all Technivorm Moccamasters will always make my favorite list of features. The Moccamaster Cup-One is no exception.

This coffee maker brings the water temperature between 196°F – 205°F in less than five minutes. This is the ideal temperature for coffee extraction.

This temperature is essential for quality coffee.  When you brew at that temperature, your cups of coffee turn out delicious every time.

Unparalleled 5-Year Warranty

I tend to brew a coffee maker into the coffee ground. So I appreciate a good warranty on my machine. Like all Moccamasters, the Moccamaster Cup-One comes with an Industry-Leading 5-Year Warranty. You won’t find this anywhere else.

Also, they’ll repair any brewer for life. That’s hard to beat.

The Drawbacks

Nothing is ever perfect in life, and I found that the Moccamaster Cup-One has a few flaws that are a little hard to get past. But, of course, it all depends on what you’re looking for in a coffee maker.

No Showerhead Design

The larger machines that Moccamaster produces include the patented nine-hold showerhead outlet. However, the Moccamaster Cup-One does not. I’m a big fan of the showerhead design that mimics the pour-over quality of coffee in an automatic coffee maker, and this is hard to get past.

The Moccamaster Cup-One includes a Cup-One outlet arm that pulses water in a single stream over the grounds. I wish they had included this feature in the Moccamaster Cup-One Single Serve Coffee Maker because I would enjoy the taste of coffee more.

No Programmable Features

Moccamster tends to be very user-friendly, with not much more than a power on and off button. I know that I love to wake up to a cup of coffee already brewed and waiting, and it’s something I look for in automatic brewers. Unfortunately, the Moccamaster Cup-One does not include any programmable features.

However, with a four-minute coffee brewing cycle, this might be something you can overlook.

No Bells and Whistles but Still Costs

If you’re looking for a range of brew methods, the Moccamaster Cup-One will disappoint. Some people are looking for a machine to brew iced coffee or espresso, even in a single-serve coffee maker.

This machine does not do that. Instead, it brews delicious coffee with the perfect saturation, and that’s about it. And, unfortunately, it also comes with a hefty price tag. The Moccamaster Cup-One is one of the most expensive coffee machines on the market and costs more than most automatic brewers.

Should you try it?

If you’re looking for a high-end single-serve coffee maker, the Technivorm Moccamaster Cup-One will make a great addition to your kitchen. It boasts a fast brew time, delicious coffee, and a 5-year manufacturer warranty.

However, it lacks programmable features and a nine-hole showerhead outlet arm. None of these drawbacks stop plenty of coffee professionals from loving this machine and the Moccamaster brand.

If you’re looking for a more all-in-one coffee maker, I recommend the Ninja DualBrew. This machine brews espresso, coffee in several cup sizes, including half carafe and full carafe, as well as k-cup convenience.

If only a single-serve coffee maker will do, then check out the Mixpresso Single-Serve Coffee Maker. It includes a 14-ounce insulated travel mug and reusable coffee filter.

Overall, the Technivorm Moccamaster Cup-One brews a single cup of delicious coffee that coffee professionals everywhere enjoy. So if you want the Gold Cup Standard every morning, this is the coffee machine for you.

Happy Caffeinating!
