What Exactly Is Organic Coffee?

Organic coffee isn’t just your regular old coffee. In fact, the hands that make organic coffee are often more careful and dedicated to the cultivation process.

Those who plant, grow, and roast organic coffee do so because they are focused on the quality of the beans instead of the number of products they can produce.

The key characteristic that sets organic coffee apart is that it isn’t tainted by outside synthetic chemicals used in the production/cultivation process.

Simply stated: this means the plants are grown with clean and chemical-free soil, air, and water.

Why Go Organic?

The coffee industry is a large, ever-growing, and expanding entity. Like all businesses, it depends on producing as much as possible as efficiently as possible in order to satisfy its customers.

To increase efficiency and cut corners, many large-scale coffee production companies heavily rely on the usage of chemically-based fertilizers and pesticides to help coffee beans grow faster, larger, or in climates that may not be as ideal.

However, through the strategy of producing a large quantity of coffee, the quality of coffee tends to slip through the cracks. These conventional coffee farming processes have an environmental impact, as well.

Going organic reduces the number of potentially harmful chemicals and toxins in your coffee, and it can also increase the overall flavor quality of the beans too.

In fact, some coffee connoisseurs swear up and down that organic coffee beans possess and retain more flavor during the cultivation process and after the roasting process.

It makes sense – without the added use of foreign chemicals, the natural enzymes and amino acids in the beans are allowed to grow in flavor and potency.

The Top 10 Organic K-Cups

Organic coffee blends have spiked in popularity over the last several years due to the overall health benefits that it provides, and it’s taken the coffee world by storm.

With a wide variety of coffee companies and roasters claiming to offer the highest quality organic coffee, it can sometimes be difficult to separate the good coffee from the mediocre.

Don’t feel overwhelmed, though – we’re here to help!

We’ve compiled a list of the most flavor-filled, affordable, best organic coffee K-Cups for you to begin brewing with.

This non-GMO, single-origin, USDA-certified organic coffee is shade-grown & sun-dried high in the mountains of Central America and is both delicious, and immune-boosting.

We’ve reviewed many of Lifeboost’s products ourselves, and we’ve been very impressed with every single roast that Lifeboost has to offer.

Lifeboost’s Medium Roast Coffee Pods are no exception – they certainly don’t disappoint!

These shade-grown and sun-dried Central American beans continue to excite us and the multitude of customers who love Lifeboost’s coffee.

All of Lifeboost’s beans are USDA-certified organic, non-GMO, single-origin beans – but Lifeboost doesn’t stop there.

Lifeboost tests the coffee at the cultivation site to ensure that no mutated or chemically-tainted beans slip into the roasting phase.

They’re also tested by a third party for heavy metals, pesticides, and mycotoxins, so you can feel confident that the coffee you drink from Lifeboost is pure, clean, and safe.

Lifeboost has a team of individuals that test the ph levels of the coffee, and the beans have been proven to be 27.7% less acidic than some of the company’s leading roasting competitors. That’s good news for your stomach!

Our rating:

With 50+ countries to discover, you’ll try amazing micro‑lot coffees from around the world.

Check Price

Atlas Coffee Company is one of our favorite online sources for super-high-quality coffee, and although they don’t have an organic certification, we’d like to share why we recommend them.

Organic certification is a great way to identify products that are organic from the source and undergo strict quality standards throughout the entire production process. However, organic certification is expensive and varies from country to country.

It’s not always worth the expense for farmers to certify that their coffee farm is following organic best practices, even if they’re absolutely following these guidelines anyway.

Atlas Coffee Club sources its coffee from the top 1% of the coffee grown in the world and offers subscribers roasts from different countries around the world each month.

Although not all of the coffee farms where Atlas sources its coffee have organic certification, Atlas Coffee Club does prioritize sustainable practices, quality over volume, and giving back to the farmers in the countries where the coffee is grown.

So, even though Atlas Coffee Club K-Cups don’t bear a certified organic label, we feel fully confident in recommending them as a brand that follows strict quality and sustainability standards.

As we shared in our full review of Wandering Bear, we’re big fans of their dark roast, organic K-Cups.

These particular K-Cups stood out to us because of their bold flavor, with no bitter aftertaste dragging it down. The Wandering Bear dark roast has hints of sweet chocolate and hints of caramel that make for a sweeter cup of coffee – no flavored creamers needed.

These K-Cups are also extra caffeinated because Wandering Bear packs in 25% extra coffee to deliver 250 mg of caffeine in each fully-brewed K-Cup.

So if you like that little extra shot in the arm, you should check these out.

Newman’s Special Blend is a medium roast that is well-balanced with a mild acidity, making it both savory and soothing to sip on.

A large contributing factor to the savory taste of Newman’s is the high altitude climate the beans are grown in, as well as the careful cultivation of arabica coffee beans used for this roast.

Little known to some, Newman’s Own donates 100% of its profits to charity after all business expenses are paid for. So not only can you enjoy a delicious cup of coffee from Newman’s, but you can feel good about it too!

Organic Coffee – Java Love

If you love flavors like milk chocolate, caramel, spices, and cinnamon, then look no further than the Java Love Roast by The Organic Coffee Company.

These organic K-Cups are a medium-light blend, filled with caffeine yet embodying an acidity that isn’t overwhelming or overpowering. Sourcing the beans for this roast from Central America, Organic Coffee ensures that all of its beans meet standard USDA requirements.

Organic Coffee only uses 100% arabica coffee, giving you a delicious, ripe amount of flavor but still enough caffeine to get you through the day.

We particularly enjoy Organic’s K-Cups because, not only are the beans roasted as carefully as possible, but the light roast level provides a refreshing taste and feel in comparison to other darkly-roasted organic coffees.

Green Mountain Sumatran Reserve Organic K-Cups

The king of Keurig machines, Green Mountain Coffee has been cultivating and creating coffee to specifically complement their Keurig machines.

This fair trade organic Sumatran Reserve is a darker single-origin roast that is filled with unique flavor combinations like brown sugar and warm spices to give you a comforting, savory brew to enjoy in the morning.

This roast is so delectable that it’s delicious enough for you to drink black if you prefer.

Made with arabica beans grown at a high elevation deep in the mountains of Latin America, Peet’s Coffee roasts these beans to perfection, making sure to preserve the flavors of citrus and sweet dark chocolate.

Peet’s takes special care to roast their coffee beans in small batches to closely monitor the roasting process. This dedication helps to ensure that they are roasted evenly and thoroughly – but without burning or over-roasting them.

Peak Performance Decaf Roast K-Cups

Love coffee but hate the caffeine? Peak Performance’s Decaf Roast K-Cups have combined delicious coffee flavor, the convenience of a single-serve brewing method, and the high-quality traits of rich, organic arabica coffee.

The Verdict

There are so many benefits of organic products, including your health, the environment, and the manual workers and coffee growers in the coffee industry too.

A Keurig-compatible, chemical-free, clean cup of coffee is certainly worth waking up for in the morning.

However, before you begin buying and trying different organic beans, it’s important to do your research to make sure that the coffee is made through completely organic methods.

The first step is verifying that the coffee is certified organic through USDA standards. The coffee itself should have some sort of label(s) to help you identify it.

After that, all you’ll need to decide is what roast/blend fits your taste buds the best, and how many K-Cups you need in a pack!

Happy Caffeinating!
