Green Drinks at Starbucks

Our Favorite Green Drinks at Starbucks

Jumping right into our list, here are all the green drinks at Starbucks that are either already on the menu or are available to order through the provided recipes. These have all received some pretty high reviews, but if you don’t like the sound of them you can always create your own green drink using similar ingredients.

Iced Green Tea

Starting with some options that aren’t matcha-based, the Iced Green Tea may be a lighter shade of green but there’s no denying the tastiness that is this refreshing drink. This blend of specialty tea is full of mint, lemongrass, and lemon verbena.

The great thing about this beverage is that it can be altered in so many ways and still maintain its delicious flavors. We recommend trying it with some lemonade and simple syrup!

Kiwi Starfruit Refresher

Another nice little afternoon pick-me-up is the Kiwi Starfruit Refresher, the only green Refresher that Starbucks has had on its menu. This is made with their starfruit and kiwi-flavored Refresher base, water, dried kiwi fruit pieces, and ice.

Once shaken up, you have yourself a delicious and fruity green drink that’s refreshing, satisfying, and all-around tasty.

Star Drink

Another variation of the above drink is the Star Drink, which has an even brighter green hue to it. This is much like the Kiwi Starfruit Refresher but more of a creamier version.

It’s made by shaking up the starfruit and kiwi-flavored Refresher base, coconut milk, dried kiwi fruit pieces, and ice. The addition of coconut milk truly makes this beverage a tropical and refreshing adventure.

Matcha Tea Latte

Moving onto the star of the show, the easiest way to get a green drink at Starbucks is by ordering a Matcha Tea Latte or something with matcha powder added to it. The traditional green tea latte is not only brightly colored, but it’s also rather delicious.

If you order this hot, you’ll get a drink that contains milk that has been lightly sweetened by steaming it with scoops of matcha powder. If you decide you’d rather have it iced, the milk and matcha powder will be shaken with ice.

Matcha Lemonade

A commonly overlooked beverage that’s actually really tasty is the Matcha Lemonade. Much like the Iced Matcha Tea Latte, this is a drink that’s shaken with scoops of matcha powder.

Instead of milk, however, the matcha is shaken with Starbucks’ tart lemonade to create a refreshing and energizing iced drink.

Matcha Crème Frappuccino

The last green drink that’s actually on the Starbucks menu is the Matcha Crème Frappuccino. This bright green frozen beverage is made by blending together milk, matcha powder, simple syrup, and ice.

This delicious green treat is topped off with a yummy layer of whipped cream and is the perfect base for many custom creations.

Lucky Leprechaun Frappuccino

One of these customizations, the Lucky Leprechaun Frappuccino is a rather interesting and tasty choice. To order this St. Patrick’s themed drink, ask for the Matcha Crème Frappuccino and get some peppermint syrup and java chips blended in.

You can’t really go wrong with this blend of flavors that’s green, minty, sweet, and chocolatey. Plus, it’s easy to order any time of the year.

Baby Yoda Frappuccino

The second twist on the Matcha Crème Frappuccino is the Baby Yoda Frappuccino. Just like the Star Wars-themed name represents, this is a frozen beverage that’s green and sweet.

Simply get a Matcha Crème Frappuccino and add caramel syrup to the mix. Then, ask for caramel drizzle around the cup as well as on top of the whipped cream.

Green Drink

You can’t get any more green than a drink customization that’s literally called the Green Drink. This option can stand among the Refresher beverages in color and taste.

By ordering an iced black tea and having it shaken with coconut milk and scoops of matcha powder, you’re presented with a bright green and creamy refreshment.

Shamrock Tea

A variation of an Iced Matcha Tea Latte is the Shamrock Tea, which consists of a very interesting combination of ingredients. After ordering the base drink, ask for it to be made with coconut milk.

Where things take a turn is then asking for a splash of lemonade and two scoops of vanilla bean powder to be shaken into the mix. It may not sound like the greatest recipe, but we recommend giving it a try.

Green Goblin Latte

It’s just as easy to customize the Matcha Tea Latte as it is to customize the Matcha Crème Frappuccino, which can be seen in the Green Goblin Latte. Before you go and order this one, however, it’s important to know that you can only get this when the holiday season rolls around.

This Iced Matcha Tea Latte is made with oat milk and has both toffee nut and sugar cookie syrup added to it. It’s sweet and delicious, but the sugar cookie syrup is sadly not available year-round.

Grinch Drink

Another character-inspired green drink that is also only a holiday season special is the Grinch Drink. This takes the Starbucks Cold Brew and adds both mocha sauce and peppermint syrup to the mix.

On top of it all, ask for some Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam that’s been blended with matcha powder and Irish Cream Syrup. The last addition is what makes this drink only available during the winter season, but it’s certainly worth it.

Cha Cha Latte

Our final green drink option at Starbucks is a customer creation that has actually become quite popular. The Cha Cha Latte is much more delicious than you might think it would be.

To get this yummy beverage, order a hot or iced Matcha Green Tea Latte and ask to add chai syrup instead of simple syrup. You end up with a sweet and spiced green drink that’s perfect any time of the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Now that you have our list of green drink options available to order at Starbucks, both on the menu and off, we’ve also answered a few more questions you may have.

What is the Green Drink at Starbucks?

If you’re referring to the popular customer creation called the Green Drink, the recipe for this green-colored beverage is available in our list above. However, if you’re referring to the most commonly seen green drink at Starbucks, you’re probably thinking of the Matcha Tea Latte which is already on the menu.

Is the Green Drink at Starbucks Healthy?

Most of the green drinks that we have available on this list are made with matcha in order to give that desired green hue. So, to answer this is to answer if Starbucks matcha is healthy.

Compared to other matcha powders, it actually isn’t the most healthy due to the sugar that is added to the green tea powder blend. Since it’s pre-sweetened, you can’t really change this up with a simple customization.

Does Matcha Have a Lot of Caffeine?

While there is a good amount of caffeine present in matcha powder, around 70 milligrams a cup, it still has less than a regular cup of coffee which contains a little over 100 milligrams of caffeine. Although, you’ll find that a matcha tea latte will have a bit more caffeine than a regular iced tea.

Is Matcha Better For Anxiety Than Coffee?

Despite this caffeine content, the lower amount gives you the ability to drink matcha without getting any jitters. It’s even said to be better for anxiety due to the amount of L-theanine in the powder, an amino acid that keeps you energized and focused sans the side effect of anxiety.

Is Green Tea the Same as Matcha at Starbucks?

Not so much. Matcha is actually a Japanese green tea powder that comes from the Camelia Sinensis plant. Since matcha is essentially ground tea leaves, you consume more of the plant than you would in a brewed green tea. This makes the effects and benefits more powerful in a matcha powder form.

Keeping it Green

We hope our list of delicious green drink options at Starbucks has inspired you to go pick your favorite from their menu or even create your own tasty recipe. Whether you’re looking for something refreshing and fruity or energizing and creamy, it’s pretty easy to get your hands on a green drink.

Maybe you like the green aesthetic or you love the taste of matcha and green tea. Either way, we highly recommend giving one or two of these brightly colored drinks at Starbucks a try!
